MTN Clawback Fee and bad service

Good day,

In September 2025, I took on an MTN M2M contract. I informed the store assistant that the Shesha200 plan wouldn't be sufficient for my needs, but he insisted that it would be adequate, so I followed his advice. The first month was fine since it was pro-rated, but by October, during my first full month, my data was depleted by the 15th.

I returned to MTN to report the issue and requested an upgrade to the She****00 plan. However, I was told that this wasn't possible and that I would need to cancel my current contract and sign up for a new one. I agreed, only to discover later that my Shesha200 contract had not been cancelled, and I was still being charged for it.

After several weeks of complaints, the contract was finally cancelled on December 5th. On December 27th, MTN attempted to debit my account for R4,999. The attempt failed, but the subsequent invoice indicated it was a clawback fee. After researching, I learned that this fee was related to my old contract, which had been cancelled on the advice of an MTN agent.

I returned the router in brand new condition after only one month of use, and it was fully inspected by an MTN agent. I do not understand why I am being charged a clawback fee that MTN failed to disclose when they advised me to cancel my contract.

This MTN contract has been a pain in my back...as their staff are not trained well and there is no accountability for their mistakes.
