MTN - Charging me a fee for my private handset that does not belong to them! *******....

Just over 2 years ago I had a cellphone contract with a device that I was paying off and, at the end of the contract, I downgraded to a R49 per month 24 month contract because the handset was now paid off and still in perfect working condition - no need to get a new one. I downgraded at the Bluff Towers Mall in the Bluff - Durban and it was confirmed that I will now only pay R49 per month going forward as I have my own handset. At the end of May 2018 I received a cellphone bill or R261.76 so I called Customer Care who advised me that I am paying additional charges for a handset. It was advised that I go back to the Bluff Towers and clear this up with the MTN outlet concerned. I was at the outlet on Friday 1 June 2018 where the lady advised me that because of my billing period overlapping end of contract my initial bill would be more than R49 but that it should normalise on the second billing run. I was also advised that I was being charged a "Promo Fee" that should not be on my account and was given a reference number 1- ********** 2337 claiming that this Promo Fee would be refunded and removed from my account. I received my new bill yesterday and - sure as nuts - my bill comes to R261.76!! I was back at the Bluff Towers today and was again advised that I am paying a Promo Fee. I had to repeatedly ask what is this Promo Fee before being told that I was being billed for a handset and it was on my previous contract. This handset is now PAID OFF! It does not belong to MTN, it is my own. I was told that MTN are still investigating - so I must just keep paying and one day I will be refunded...... WHAT????

Thank you for the response. If you called from a private number it is automatically blocked to prevent spam. The greatest concern of course is how do I get charged a Promo Fee if there is absolutely no reason for it and why do I need to go through multiple trips to try and get this resolved. I understand the balance if the billing and await the rectification - thank you for your assistance

And now..... there is a second contract with MTN that was cancelled 19 April 2018. Phoned innand confirmed cancelled as of 12 May 2018. Today I get an invoice to say I need to pay R176! Apparently it was not closed properly - from the MTN consultant side as we expressed we no longer want this number. I am now told I need to give a months notice of cancellation and am obliged to pay the invoice amount. ****** hell! You have 2 months notice from 19 April! What is going on at MTN?
