MTN Charging Exorbitant amounts - with no response to queries!

I took out a contract with MTN late January 2016 for two handsets of R299.00 and R199.00 for my two daughters. The contract was a top-up and i made it very clear that i do not want unexpected costs.

The consultant at Wonderpark assured me that this is processed accordingly and the amount that i have signed for will remain as per contract.

To my surprise my first bill came about R672.20 in February and then March the bill increased to R911.25. I requested the account statement from customer service and i was requested to provide my ID Number, MTN PIN and Bank Name for verification before they can process my request. I provided the requested information and did not get any response to this date. I have sent a lot of email follow ups with no luck. I then went to the branch where i took out the contract and was shocked to learn that my next bill due in April was R4,582.96. I told the assistant that i am disputing the charges and would like to see the billing statement since this was not what i have signed for. I was told that i will receive it within 48hrs which has not happened. I then lodged a dispute with the ***** department on April 29 which i received a message on May 9 that it was under investigation . On May 10, i received the call from the branch assistant notifying me that the investigation concluded that there was no *****. I asked for the reports with no luck. I then decided to cancel my contract with the one handset and was told that the contract can only be cancelled once the payments have been made. To my shock again there was another R4,283.96 to be paid. I am being sent from pillar to post with my queries and can not be provided with a statement to see how the charges came about. I decided to cancel the debit order at my bank because i am being ********** by MTN.

The service is appalling and the customer service consultants are very rude and ***********.

Thank you for your post.

We are terribly sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced as a result of this. We completely understand the frustration it causes

Kindly note that the matter has been investigated, kindly be advised that the reason the first bill amounted to R672.0 is because on both number you were billed the prorata & a full months subscriptions as it happens with all contracts.

We note that a limit was set at the store to R00.00 on the account on the 2016-01-21 09:29 so not to exceed the 50min contract allocation however on the 2016-03-10 18:39 the limit was changed via a USSD code to R4 085. Again the usage limit was changed via the ussd on the 2016-03-26 21:05. On this date 2016-04-28 10:21 the usage limit was set to R00.00.

Please note that all changes done via the ussd can only be initiated on the handset, MTN can be held liable for changes initiated via the ussd.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and would like to assure you that we are actively working to improve our service levels.

Regards

Nompumelelo
