MTN cell tower in Wilderness offline during load shedding !!!

We recently started home online schooling our children in Wilderness near George. Since all of the exams & schooling is online, we require a constant power and internet connection. If the power or internet is lost in the middle of an online school exam, it is an immediate fail which would be devastating since our children are already so far behind due to limited schooling during the Covid-19 pandemic. With that in mind, we recently installed a state of the art battery power backup system with an inverter for R60.000 so that we can handle any power outages & load shedding. We thought we had all our bases covered and continued with online schooling, and so my son wrote an online exam yesterday and our power remained on during load shedding thanks to our battery backup system - great. What we didn't bank on however, is that MTN, who supply our 4G LTE data connection via a ZTE router so that we are connected to the internet, don't have any battery backup for their MTN cell tower. So my son's exam was not accepted because the MTN stop broadcasting the 4G signal when load shedding started. Honestly, in this day & age, we still have MTN cell towers that go offline when there is no power - what if there is an emergency? Many of my neighbours are on MTN and they confirmed that they cannot make or receive any calls or messages during load shedding in Wilderness!!! Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous before? MTN, please step out of the dark ages and join the 21st century.
