MTN Cell phone contract account - MTN cant find account balance on my MTN account

I have a contract with MTN. Which was handed over to legal. I phoned the call Centre. My details are there and it shows that I have started paying towards the account. what baffles me is MTN cannot tell me the balance on my account. Customer service says they cant help because they can not see anything on my account except that it handed over, legal says I must contact contracts, contract says I must contact legal. What is problematic is that this affecting my credit record. I have called center now for the 5th time this time i am not even given an option to speak to anyone. How do I pay for an account but i dont know the balance????
