MTN cancelation of contract
I have been a customer with MTN for 10 years with very little problems up to now. I recently tried to cancel a data/Wifi contract with them. Gave notice to cancel a full month before the contract expired. I also confirmed with the consultant on the day that I will not have to pay for this particular contract the following month. The following month I received an increased bill as the contract was now on a month to month basis and I no longer qualified for the bundled deals, without prior notice. I phoned MTN again and apparently the contract was never cancelled as per my initial request. I was promised again that the contract will be cancelled and my bill rectified. Following this I kept receiving sms messages "friendly reminding me of my outstanding bill". I phoned again. Again I was told that the contract was NOT cancelled following my previous two requests. I was kept on hold and the contract was eventually cancelled. However, my bill was never rectified and this morning my main number was suspended for non-payment. 4 phone-calls, emails that were not responded to and two months later, MTN has still not resolved my issue. Requesting the telephone recordings also falls on deaf ears. If the problem is not resolved within 24 hours, as they promised AGAIN, I will lodge a complaint by ICASA and the ombudsman. This is unacceptable service for a company that claims to be the best network in S.A. Very easy to give you a contract but to cancel you will jump through more hoops than a show dog at a dog show.
