MTN Business Loads Debi-Check Mandate for a Contract Without Proof of Bank Account – Beware!

Today, I received nine Bank Debit Mandate Approval requests from Mobile Telephone Networks PTY LTD (MTN Business) for a R1,636 installment. I do not have an MTN contract, yet they are attempting to debit my bank account without my authorization.

I immediately contacted my bank, who advised me to reach out to MTN. Since I don’t have an MTN contract, I had to pay out of pocket to call them from my private phone—only to receive zero assistance. The agent’s response? "Go to the police, get an affidavit, and submit it with your ID to prove it’s not your account."

Why should I have to jump through hoops to prove that an unauthorized debit order is not mine? I asked the agent whether the so-called "client" provided any proof of account ownership when requesting the debit order. The response? "No, no bank details were attached."

This means MTN is attempting to debit accounts without verifying ownership! If I had not caught this in time, they could have successfully deducted money, forcing me into a long and painful reversal process. A banking professional advised me that rejecting the mandate won’t stop them—MTN might still attempt to debit the money at month-end through a normal debit order.

When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told no supervisor was available. When I requested the supervisor’s manager, I was told the manager was also unavailable—but when I asked for the manager’s name, the agent suddenly "didn’t know" who the manager was. How is this even possible?

I even provided the MTN account number linked to this debit order, yet the agent claimed they couldn’t assist.

This is a serious warning to everyone: ➡️ MTN Business can load unauthorized Debi-Check mandates without verifying account details ➡️ You will be left to fight it on your own ➡️ Their support structure is designed to deflect, not assist

I demand immediate intervention from MTN to resolve this *****ulent attempt on my account. How many others have unknowingly lost money this way?
