MTN Business Broadband Continued Theft from Siba Meds (Pty) Ltd

MTN Business Broadband Theft from Siba Meds (Pty) Ltd

MTN is *********** and doesn’t care about their customers to the extent that they will resort to theft rather then resolving client complaints. MTN have been *****ing money from us for the past 3 months. The below story will provide context to this statement and confirm how absolutely useless this company is.

My advice to businesses all over Africa is to stay away from any MTN services because they don’t care about their customers, they only care about the money they can make off you.

We, Siba Meds (Pty) Ltd, app**** for and received an MTN Business Broadband LTE 60GB unit on the 14th April 2021. This was on a contract basis with the monthly service fee being R478.30 per month. We received the unit from MTN in Fourways Mall and we were assisted by Hlamulo Mashsava.

The unit was not operational in our area as we couldn’t activate it despite all the troubleshooting that was attempted by MTN. We subsequently returned the unit to Hlamulo Mashava at MTN in Fourways mall on the 20th April 2021 and he advised us that the contract would be cancelled that day as we had returned the unit.

Since then we have been debited in May, June and July 2021 with the amounts increasing every time. The most recent debit which was yesterday was for R1,099.30.

We have sent numerous emails asking them to stop the debit orders and cancel the contract as they promised they would. However nothing has been done as we were debited yesterday again after we received an email from Hlamulo Mashava on the 17th July 2021 confirming that the contract had been cancelled.

MTN has appalling or non-existent customer service because we have included their legal team, SME cancellations department, the Fourways branch and their customer care centre but to this day MTN continues to ***** our money because they have no reason as to why they are billing us when we handed back their LTE unit within a week of the inception of the contract.

This has been such an inconvenience and very frustrating because every time we have to reverse the debit order our bank charges us a fee. They also charge us a fee for the debit order to run off our account in the first place.

Reversing debit orders is also not good for our credit score because it makes it seems as though our business doesn’t have sound financial management. The damages of which can be enormous because it may affect us when we need to access credit lines from the banks for future projects and contracts.

In addition to this, is the time wasted each month trying to find the right channels for recourse and sending numerous emails to no avail. Aside from the financial losses and inconvenience, how will MTN compensate us for our time that they’ve wasted and the stress and frustration they’ve put us under.

At this point we feel that, aside from immediate cancellation of the contract and stopping the debit orders, MTN needs to compensate us for the stress, inconvenience, frustration and theft that they have inflicted on our business. Also for the effect this may have on our prospects to access funds in future as the debit order reversals will reflect negatively on our credit score.

In addition to this, we have now been forced to obtained legal services to assist us with this matter as MTN refuses to listen and assist us after the numerous emails that we have sent to many departments. These are further unnecessary cost which we are incurring.

I reiterate that, my advice to businesses all over Africa is to stay away from MTN services because they don’t care about their customers, they only care about the money they can make off you.
