MTN Breaking the law and we must just take it
There is not enough time to detail everything in here but here is a summary. You will get marketing related smses and notifications constantly, it doesn't matter if you opt out or explicitly tell them via email or phone calls. I have been dealing with Timothy Clouts who refused to provide me with Reshma Soma's contact details. I have asked multiple times and still nothing. The main issue here is that when I opened my contract, i explicitly told them I do not want to be involved in any form of marketing, this dates back to early 2019. After a lot of fighting with them, I eventually stopped receiving marketing related messages from the end of 2019 to Feb 2020, where it started again. I was provided with an excuse that basically told me that because I wasn't opted out of the marketing before Feb 2020 that MTN had joined internal databases and I start receiving personalised marketing as a result of not opting out. I have a right mind to host my entire mail trail on the internet for all the back story. I have threatened to put a stop order on my bank as they continue to break the law. Yesterday, I received a formal apology letter, only to get 3 messages today with more marketing.
The bottom line is, I will be putting a stop order on my account, and when the legal department at MTN comes after me, I will show them how they have broken the law and we can have our much needed conversation around how they plan to compensate me for weeks of my time wasted. Never mind the fact, that by them making internal changes to their database that consists of all customer data, that they cannot get it right, which raises security concerns about the internal management of customer personal data.
I would strongly recommend that you stay far away from MTN.
Feel free to get in touch with me for further info.
What a disgrace the company really is.
