MTN blacklisted my new device without my consent

I upgraded my two contracts with MTN on the 1st of February 2016 with a promotion of getting two cellphones per upgrade. What a good offer.Unfortunately one of the phones was ****** on the 23rd Feb. I called MTN to blacklist the ****** phone and voom, there start my nightmare. It was confirmed that the ****** phone has been blacklisted.Same day all of a sudden even the phone i am using started not working. I called MTN and they said its blacklisted. How come? I don't know because I told them to blacklist the ****** device only.

I spent every moment of three days calling them to unblacklist the phone because I have to use it and I was told it will be unblacklisted in three days. Its been 1 week now and I still can't use the phone. Today they told me to send them the ITC reference number of the blacklisting. Its amazing because if I did not authenticate a blacklist it automatically means I did not receive an ITC reference. they are the once who blacklisted my phone instead of blacklisting a ****** phone only. How do I go about this because I only received the ITC reference number for the ****** device. For how long will I pay for a non working phone?

MTN correct your mistake please.

Hello GilianaMM,

Thank you for your post.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with our service.

The request has been sent to the 808 call center agent who have blacklisted the handset to un-blacklist the device. In the meantime please switch the handset off for 72 hours. The agent will be in contact with you once the un blacklisting has been done.

Kind Regards,

Alice van der Merwe
