MTN BLACK FRIDAY SPECIAL FROM HELL
I signed up for MTN's highly advertised black Friday contract deal. Unlimited calls, and 30G data at 50% off which would be perfect for my small business in the service industry. I would just need to move my out-of-contract Vodacom business number to this deal. The sales person assured me this would not be a problem and could be done once I received my new sim on 13 Dec 2019. HUGE MISTAKE! Endless problems and stress described below and I am still being billed incorrectly without the situation being rectified.
What went wrong: 1. MTN opposition to linking the new contract to my existing number. Even though a smooth transition was assured to me upfront, it took over a month of fighting and complaining in store and on every platform available. Most MTN personnel told me it was impossible and were content to leave me paying for this contract on a number that is useless to my business. Eventually I reached someone who gave me steps to help. It involved porting my Vodacom number to MTN and the process was completed on 22 Jan.
2. Technical problems porting number to MTN. I received complaints from certain clients that they were not able to get through to me. It turned out to be a technical problem where an incorrect process was followed in the porting. It took MTN weeks to investigate they did not seem to take the problem seriously. It was resolved on 9 Feb allowing an 18 day window where business operations were affected and potential sales lost. In this time I had to take other measures and incur additional costs to preserve my business.
3. Incorrect billing on the contract This My MTN Sky contract was advertised on Black Friday for R499 per month. From Dec 2019 to Feb 2020 this amounts to R1207, including a pro rata month of December where I received the SIM on the 13th of the month. On writing this review on 18 Feb, I have been invoiced R2255 on the contract. This is a gross overcharge with MTN customer care unable to comprehend the issue.
Conclusion Due to a service that was not rendered correctly, I feel I should not be charged anything for the period 13 Dec to 9 Feb. Yet MTN have the audacity to significantly overcharge me and not resolve the issue. I have all the reference numbers documented and long email chains where I am able to prove my issues, correspondence and dates. This has been a truly terrible customer experience and I implore someone with authority to assist.
