MTN Billing Dispute – Month-to-Month LTE Contract Wrongfully Charged R3 800

I am extremely dissatisfied with the way MTN has handled my month-to-month LTE Home WiFi account.

I took out a month-to-month LTE router contract as a backup for when my fibre was down. I paid the pro-rata amount and used it for exactly one month. No additional data was loaded after that and the router was not used again.

Despite this, MTN is now claiming that I owe R3 800 with no explanation of how this amount was calculated.

I went back to the MTN store to return the router as instructed. On my first visit, the staff said the router must be returned. When I returned with the router, they suddenly “couldn’t assist” and told me to contact Customer Care. Customer Care has provided zero clarity.

To make matters worse, the account has now been handed over to lawyers, even though the billing is clearly still in dispute. This is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of accountability from MTN.

I have already opened cases with the NCC and HelloPeter because MTN has failed to provide:

A breakdown explaining the R3 800 charge,

A valid reason why the store refused the router return,

Any assistance to resolve a dispute that should be straightforward.

All I want is a fair and transparent resolution reflecting the fact that I used the service for one month only and was billed pro-rata accordingly.

MTN, please get this sorted. This level of service is not acceptable.
