MTN - BEWARE & STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!
I've been a client of MTN for more than 15 years. I did not experience any serious problems until my most recent upgrade on Black Friday (29 November 2019). 1.Due to the call center being snowed under with queries on "Black Friday", the call center assistant (Palesa Kubeka) confirmed my upgrade request and promised to call me back as soon as she had some time to to complete my upgrade which only happened the following Monday. After the upgrade was completed I was told that the Samsung television which I was told formed part of the upgrade package would not necessarily be "given" to me with the contract as promised but instead I had a 1/500 chance of getting one after a whole registration process... I could not turn back and cancel the deal anymore as Black Friday had come and gone and all the other company's specials was over so I decided to push on and fight this injustice. After more than a month of ongoing back-and-forth fighting with both MTN & Samsung head offices/management teams my television set was finally sent to me along with apologies BUT since then my account would be suspended EVERY SINGLE month without fail only to be told that a full recon would be done on my account and feedback given... apologies are then made and my account reinstated for that month at least (no feedback has been given over the past 7 months apart from an sms saying that the query "had been resolved"... which is not the case and that's not feedback in my opinion). It did not matter when my monthly payments was made, my account would always reflect in arrears by the previous month's installment and I finally had enough this month (July 2020) and when my statement arrived I decided to pay the FULL AMOUNT DUE (as I had only been paying the monthly invoice amount and not the requested statement value as I had proof of payment for the previous month's "outstanding value") in order to test where this problem lies... believe it or not, my account was suspended AGAIN! I contacted the accounts department I was eventually promised that the problem was resolved and that it would not happen again (time will tell come August 2020)... The consultant then told me that my "2nd" phone number (my wife's phone) was in fact due for an upgrade... That statement simply started a whole new problem because I then asked to be transferred to the upgrades department in order to finalise her upgrade only to be told that my account indicated that I was placed under a "payment plan" which I knew nothing about... NO MORE DETAILS COULD BE PROVIDED and again after being sent back and forth between the sales/upgrade and accounts departments by two ladies (Serusha Deepchund & Nikita Pillay) the former who promised to resolve the matter and phone me back within 20min and never did so and the latter who simply refused to transfer me to a manager using every excuse in the book: the manager was in a meeting, the manager was unavailable, the manager would call me back and finally if all else fails, due to social distancing they could not take the call????? Finally the accounts department assistant loaded a query on my behalf (***) and told me that he could not help any further as nothing reflects on my account on his end, yet the upgrades department refuses to help me as they insist that something is reflecting on their end but can't do anything about it as they believe accounts are responsible for removing this error... I spent most of the day on the phone with MTN and got nowhere. In the end I insisted on an email address where I could send a complaint and was given: *** and I sent a detailed complaint on the 2 July warning MTN that action would be taken if these issues weren't addressed and feedback given before the close of business same day. Nothing happened the rest of that day but I did receive a phonecall from a so-called "senior manager" who received a copy of my email and promised that the issue would receive urgent attention the next morning and that he would get back to me (he's number reflected as a "private number" which I found strange and asked why that was and he mentioned that it was protocol) but I never heard back from anybody at MTN... that was last week Thursday. I've had enough and decided that the general public should know how MTN treats their clients (especially 15 year old loyal clients)! PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT MTN... Let's boycott this company and show them the power of the masses... Corporates get away with way too much and it is time they are taken to task! Their "bully-tactics" ends here...
