MTN

I recently took a 24 month data contract for the 20GB day 20GB night for R199. To my surprise, the bill for the first month was about R542. I made sure not to take any device or load the contract with anything to be charged such as amount beyond the R199. I tried to lodge the complaint with MTN call center, to say the least, they were not friendly at all and told me to go back to the MTN store in which I signed the contract. Little did I know that the MTN stores we see in malls are actually other companies trading as MTN such as Mobile Telephones Network (PTY) LTD in my case. The staff smile at you when they want to sign you up and are eager to help you when you have problems shortly after. I had to get store sales people to lodge 2 complaints with MTN to get them to credit me the money. When you sign up, they always say that they will debit a large amount from your account for what they call "pro-rata". This "pro-rata" amount for some reason cannot be determined on the day you sign. This is dangerous as MTN can justify any amount and blame it on the store you opened the contract in after the fact. In short, check your statements, give the MTN store staff hell until they fix your problem, if not consider Consumer Goods & Services Ombud.
