MTN - BAD CONTRACTS FOR INDIVIDUALS
What a joke MTN has become. I have been a client of MTN for 28 years and it's become very clear that they have no intention of retaining business no matter how loyal a client like myself has been to them for so many years. In 28 years they have never once had to ask me for monthly payments. After a gazillion text messages from MTN to upgrade my phone, I finally took the plunge and went to an MTN outlet in a large shopping centre in December 2022, and signed up for yet another 2-year contract. The young chap that sold the package to me, conveniently forgot to mention that neither the data nor the airtime that I do not use in any particular month, would be carried forward into the next month, nor that I would never be able to change the package in any way whatsoever. I very quickly realised that my airtime was much too little compared to the massive amount of data they sold me. When I queried with MTN directly whether I could change my package to give me more airtime and less data, I was informed that I would have to return to the MTN shop that had signed me up in December 2022. Imagine my surprise when I requested 50 extra minutes of airtime and much less data and got told by the MTN shop that this would cost me an extra amount of R200 per month on my subscription. When I expressed my disappointment and anger, I got told to contact the “Retentions Division” of MTN directly to express my unhappiness with this situation and to see if they could assist me. After 8 telephone calls and being shunted from one division to another this morning, I was told to go to the store because only they and no-one else could “migrate” my package. It is just so sad when a company has no interest in their old clients and no concern about losing their business. Surely the MTN outlets represent the company and surely they should be trained not to con clients into unsuitable packages. The second my contract is up, I will most definitely cancel my contract with MTN and seek a better deal with their competition. For everyone out there that hasn’t yet had such a terrible experience with MTN, please take cognisance.
