MTN BA*** DEBIT ORDER NIGHTMARE RETURNS

Back in 2023 I had a month on month data sim contract with MTN at R315 per month. Fast forward first of February 2024 or somewhere around there I received a call from a lady who identified herself as coming from their sales department who offered new contract products. I told her I was ok with my current plan as I did not want to tie myself into a contract as I could terminate this current as and when I wanted to. She then changed her story to say that she can make this current plan immune from future increases for an extra R20 on what I was currently paying. After some back and forth I agreed to this. The call took over an hour with her trying to convince me on different plans until I agreed to this of an extra R20 on my current plan to make it immune from future price increases. To my surprise shortly after that call I receive an email headed Contract Confirmation or something along those lines, with my personal and bank details. In that short space of time I also received an a debit order confirmation from my bank via the bank app. When I perused the confirmation, to my surprise the debit order amount I needed to confirm was close to R3,000.00 I immediately rejected that debit order request confirmation. Unknowingly to me this was the start of this nightmare. What happened in the coming days was that my data sim was blocked around the 7th of February 2024 with no attempt to debit my account as they would in previous months. My data sim remained blocked in the following months with invoices being emailed to myself on the month until around May of that year. In that period I never received a call from MTN on both my prepaid and data sim numbers instead I attempted on numerous occasions to call them I would be directed to their contracts department where I would hold for a very long time until I had no option but to hang up. I then went onto their social media account on Twitter (X) where I raised this issue of debit orders we interacted on DMs I gave them my contact numbers including the billing account number BA*** I waited for feedback which never came even after follow-ups. They then asked for my ID number I told them that I can only confirm those sensitive details when they call me as social media accounts are prone to hacking especially when you have a significant following and there had been ongoing attempts to hack mine. They did not bother to contact me. Instead in the following months the emailed invoices stopped.

On the 14th of November 2025 just over a week ago out of the blue I received an attempted debit notification of R644.30 with the same billing account number from MTN which was rightly rejected by my back. This morning I have received a successful debit notification from the same billing account number from MTN for an amount of R166.08 All of this is happening when no attempts of communication have been made with myself regarding this account in well over a year and prior to that I am the one who has been trying to reach out to no luck and now it has come to this.
