MTN at it Again - 2 New Service Failures

Two Service Failures.

1. I start with the recent one.

I cancelled my data package contract when it expired and this was during 2015. It was a 2GigaBytes + MacBook package. I requested that the 2G simcard be converted to a prepaid and this was confirmed. As I never bothered to use the sim card thereafter I was of the opinion that this was done until one day I inserted this simcard in my phone and I found out I had 4 Gigabytes available. Needless to say I used it as I thought this was the unused portion of my old data.

Surprised when I checked my statements in July 2017 I realised that MTN has been charging me R135 debit order per month for data I have not been using and cancelled in 2015.

I called the Call Centre&Retention Dept and was told I must first provide the Reference Number whereupon I cancelled this. I do not have this as this is an old matter. I have asked the Agent to immediately cancel the contract and she confirmed via Ref ********** 75 yet my bank account has been debited again on 2 Aug 2017.

MTN must please refund all the debits since my cancellation please minus the 1-month data usage of on/around April 2017.

2. In Dec 2016, as I had also cancelled my voice contract and converted my number to a prepaid, I bought some data and immediately received a promotion message offering a free 1G data upon a further purchase and use of airtime/data. I took the offer and purchased additional airtime/data and used it accordingly.

I never received the free 1G data promised via the promotion SMS despite my logging of the query on multiple times and even escalating with an email and a query SMS line. MTN did acknowledge their mistake of not crediting me with the free data but to date MTN has not credited that to me.

It is clear that MTN uses underhand tactics to increase their revenue and do take their customers for a ride in the process. This is in simple language "cheating" and has all the characteristics of "de*****ing" customers with promises that are not fulfilled.

On this case I have numerous reference numbers which kept on changing, implying that MTN has a tactic that it uses to camouflage incidents as "new" all the time.

on/around 22/12/2016 Ref ********** 07

on/around 24/12/2016 Ref ********** 25

on/around 29/12/2016 Ref ********** 33

The tactic MTN uses is to wear you out as a complainant until you get tired and drop the case and they score *********ly earned profits in the process.
