MTN and Third Parties breaches POPIA and Misleads their clients
My experience with MTN is pathetic. Not only do they breach the POPIA Act in terms of sharing my information with their 3rd Parties without my consent. The 3rd parties calls to provide misleading information.
On the 23 Feb 2024, i received a call from their 3rd Party called Empowered Consultants which advised that being a long standing client i qualify for the discount on my contract from R358 to R169 and ask if i wish to accept this. A week later, another call comes through for the same "discount" only for R119. I queried this and advised that i should visit the MTN branch.
upon visiting the branch after receiving mutiple sms's that my account is R400 in arrears, i was told that it was not a discount but instead my contract was up for renewal and the deal presented was a sim only deal and I was signed up for another 24 months on this deal and my payment method has been changed from debit order to cash.
Imagine my surprise when I unknowingly entered another contract without any consent nor this being explain to me and my payment method changed.
On the 07 March i called the call centre and they advised me that if i want to cancel the contract i will be liable for the penalities for early termination on a contract i was not even aware of entering and this is after being tranferred to two agent and then a third and had to re-explain my entire situation.
This whole scenario is *****ulent and breach!!!
