MTN allows ********** porting and then fails to do a swim swap
My MTN phone number was ported to Cell C on Wednesday, 6 November 2019 without my permission. After a lot of effort on my side, I had Cell C port the number back to MTN on Thursday, 7 November 2019. As of Thursday evening I have had a lot of trouble to claim back my own number through a sim swap.
The service centre in Menlyn Mall, Pretoria referred me to the porting department and the porting department referred me to customer care. I have since spoken to a number of consultants by phone and have had 2 sim swap processes done, and yet the sim swap is STILL NOT COMPLETE, even after 24 hours.
How long must I wait before I get my number back? Especially seeing as MTN allowed my number to be ported to a different service provider without my consent. The ********** porting and subsequent sim swap is MTN's fault and therefore their responsibility to fix.
And every time I speak to a consultant, I am given different instructions. One says I'm supposed to switch off my phone while the sim swap is being done. The next consultant says I should never switch off my phone during the swap. One says my new sim card is not working, I should get another one. The next consultant says that sim is not faulty, I should just wait another hour. One says I will get a SMS stating that is sim swap is being done (which I did not receive), and the next says that I won't receive any messages during the swap. So, what exactly am I supposed to take away from this?
How is it possible that your consultants don't know the basics when it comes to a sim swap?
