MTN advertising.

I went to MTN in cresta to take out a month to month wi fi router.

I was told that there are pro rata fees applicable, so I told the consultant I will come back on the 1st of November or at the start of the new month cycle. The consultant told me I will still pay pro rata fees and there was no way around this. He told me I will pay R499 for the monthly subscription fee and R499 pro rata fees. I asked him why was this because if I took out the home wi fi router at the start of the new month there would be no pro rata fees as I would not have used MTN router in the previous month. I was told that the fee is still applicable. I told him what he was reffering to was a once of initiation fee or an activation fee and the meaning of pro rata fees and initian fees or activation fees are two distinct fees.

Basically if I took out car insurance on the 25th of the month and the insurer new month is the 1st of the month, I would need to pay in advance from the 25th to the 30th or 31st and the full amount for the next month as short term insurance is paid in advance. That is what pro-rata means. You cannot apply pro rata fees at the start of a month if there was no period in the previous month that you were not insured.

Initian fees or activation fees is different. It is a extra once of fee in addition to your monthly subscription fee. On MTN's website it states clearly that pro rata fees may apply.

What the gentleman explained is that I must pay a R499 pro rata fee and the monthly fee if I take out the router on the start of the new month. He told me that it doesnt matter whether I come in a new month I will still pay the R499 pro-rata fee and R499 monthly subscription fee and 150 sim activation fee.

Who is MTN trying to fool by passing off an initiation fee or an activation fee as pro rata fees?? Or was the consultant trying to get the sale today because he was too impatient to wait for the new month. I will not pay any initiation fees because no such fees are communicated, only pro rata fees.

Good morning. I received smses informing of the cancellation to take effect month end. No communication that the package will be cancelled today and no mention of a refund for the remainder of the month. This is not my fault. If I was told I will receive 30 mbs upload speed and if this is not the case I need to be refunded. I am not even saying I want a full refund, I am just asking for a refund for the remainder of the month that I wont be using the router.

Thanks
