MTN abuse of billing
I have been an MTN customer since almost the beginning of cell phones. In Dec 19, MTN, 18 months into my contract which included a phone, started debiting my account with a R42/month charge for insurance. I emailed Customer Care (impossible to get thru on phone). Customer Care (sic) merely meant referring me to the insurance company. Some Care, No Care, take your problem elsewhere!!! Insurance company responded that "you must prove you didn't take the insurance". I rep**** how can I prove something that never happened!! Went to Fourways MTN shop. After much drama they contacted an agent at MTN. Found that the surname of person taking the insurance was not me. There was an error with the cell number. They promised they would action a correction and refund. Next month same debit again, no refund. Went to MTN Morningside, which I understand is the company itself and not a franchise. Spent near an hour explaining and arguing the case Ref R***. Again found that surname taking insurance was not me. Much photocopying and forms. Promised it was all sorted out and that debit would stop and refund onto my account processed. Feeling confident it would be sorted, and since my contract had expired, I entered into a new sim-only contract. I was duped. Next month same debit again, no refund. Returned to MTN Morningside. But now with an additional problem that my account had been debited with R80 +- for additional data. I did not request it or use it and I was never even near the 1Gb data I have on my contract. New person to explain the long story to. Additional reference ***. More promises to follow up. Next month same debit again, still no refund after 4 months interaction and in-action. Now to port to a new service provider, I must first settle the account, paying for insurance and data and a fee to cancel the recent contract! Stay safe from Covid-19 and MTN
