MTN - Absolute **** of the earth
What happened: In 2021 I needed backup internet, MTN was offering a great deal on their Home internet offers, I went in to the store and enquired about it, I clearly told the staff what device I have and they told me it would work. I go home with the new home internet sim card, plug it in to discover it in fact does not work, at this stage I cannot travel easily as my car is in for repairs. Next week I go back to the store, tell them the sim card doesn't work, I'll be needing the device after all. Now the store declines to give me the device I need to use the simcard they just sold me, me thinking I didn't need the device now thinking this is absurd, the device comes free with the package, I declined the device as I was told my current device supports it, now I'm stuck paying MTN R200 monthly for a simcard that I'm unable to use because they refuse to give a customer a device he 100% needs to use it, and instead wants to now sell me the device for an absurd amount of R2500.
What followed: Obviously my natural reaction is to feel cheated, I now pay monthly for a useless piece of plastic, MTN has just used contracts to cheat a customer out of money. It's November 29th 2021, I send out an email to cancel my contract. by December 24th 2021, almost a full month later I finally receive an quote from *** to cancel my contract for R733 for an early termination fee, again a week goes by as I wait for my salary to come in, I reply asking for an updated quote as they quotes only last for 7 days. They reply back saying the total is now R1,532.26 1 week later. "Am I missing something or is it absurdly cruel and ******** behavior how MTN acts towards it's customers?" Now I'm basically at the point where if I continue my contract, I just have to pay R200, if I try and leave they anyway want basically the entire amount they would have collected from me if I stay on the contract for the 24 month term.
Fast forward to today: I've been unable to pay their exorbitant termination fees, was forced to continue to pay R200 monthly until I'm in a better financial situation. Will I ever buy any product from MTN? Never again for as long as I live Will I ever recommend MTN to any other person? What do you think? Now in 2023 finally I'm able to pay the termination fee, whatever it may be now, have now emailed them today to cancel the product, once I've terminated my contract I will for the rest of my life never again do any business whatsoever with MTN, additionally I am going to ensure that everyone who I can possibly influence, to rather choose a different network provider that does not display such extreme anti consumer behavior.
