MTN *****
I've had the worst experience with MTN over the past year, since I've joined them around 1998!
I would consider myself to be a loyal customer, have always paid my bill and never complain, even though the coverage and signal for their service, are not what it used to be.
But enough is enough. In September 2023, I found that ***** has been committed on my account. Someone, somehow, were able to create open 2 additional contracts, linking it to my account.
I was going through a rough patch in August 2023 and did not notice that over R9000 was deducted from my bank account (and please take note that my monthly deduction is but a mere R358.02). When they tried to take over R16,000 from my account in September 2023, I got a massive fright (luckily I didn't have R16,000 in my bank account for them to take).
I went to the police to get an affidavit and when I got to MTN, they said that they did not need it. They went ahead and filed with their ***** department and logged 2 individual tickets for each of the numbers.
Meanwhile, please note, that I am still R9000+ out of pocket at this time and have not been refunded yet.
Every week I would submit an email, I was even told that I had to open up a different bank account and close the old one, to prevent the bill of over R20,000 which was accumulating on my name, by other ***** related activities, to not go off my account.
After creating a new bank account and closing the old account and about a month after I had to chase them up again, I was told that the ***** cases were closed and the numbers removed from my account.
Now, to get my money back. It took hours and hours and days and days and weeks and weeks and months and months of logging tickets, going into their shops, emailing their ***** department, submitting my banking details and proof of my banking details in order to get my money back which they have taken off my account.
To be exact, it took exactly 6 months from the day I reported the issue, for them to refund MY MONEY!!!! 6 MONTHS of cheer hell and torture.
AND GUESS WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE MOMENT? Yes, you got it! Someone by the name of AHUL, has been able to open up another "Sim-only Contract" on my name, with MY EMAIL ADDRESS, with MY PHONE NUMBER, with MY ID NUMBER, with all my details.
This happened on Saturday, 1 June 2024. I got a notification indicating that a credit check needs to be done. Then that my credit check was successful. Then that I had a credit for R200 and the next email that came through, indicated that I had an increased credit limit of R16,000!!!!!
And this all happened while I was sound asleep in my bed.
On Sunday, 2 June 2024, I tackled the situation head on and went straight to the shop I always go to. They called 135 and were able to speak to someone and handed the phone over, where I was informed that they cannot cancel any contract linked to my name on a weekend. It needs to be done between Monday to Friday, during the ***** department's working hours.
What BULL is that? I, a loyal customer of over 25 years, don't have any rights. I cannot change an email by myself. I cannot update my banking details by myself, I cannot have a *****ulent transaction removed from my account, unless it's in the hours that THEY tell me to sort it out in.
Not to mention that I have emailed the ***** department with copies of ALL the mails which I have received regarding the *****ulent transaction, just to get an email back saying I have to submit an affidavit, which they are not going to be using in any case.
I WANT THIS SORTED OUT RIGHT NOW, BUT IT WILL PROBABLY TAKE ANOTHER 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR FOR THAT TO HAPPEN, BECAUSE MTN DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS, THE EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING OF THEIR CUSTOMERS OR THE DAMAGE IT'S CAUSING TO THEIR HEALTH!
IT'S CAUSING MORE STRESS IN AN ALREADY STRESSFUL LIFE!!!!!!
And the ***** being committed are likely to come from within MTN itself. An MTN source told me that there might be someone within the company, selling people's personal information, which means they are not following the POPI act and I firmly believe that they are targeting senior citizens, because we don't get to notice these things so quickly or might not have children close by to help us. Guess what!?!?!? We are not as thick as most would think!
