MTN : 81 year old lady *****ed by MTN for contract she never signed for.
My mother (81 Years old) took a contract with MTN 2019 for P30 and upgraded in January 2021 to an iPhone 11 package that was advertised at R659.00pm for 36 months. for the 1st few months the bill was as agreed and the from R659 it went up to +/- R906.00.
Tried finding out from the Maponya Store where we upgraded, and they told me its insurance which we never took when signing up for the contract. So MTN added the insurance without our consent.
I made peace with the +/- R906 Instalment. I-Phone got lost in Dec 2022 and we claimed for insurance. we got the I-phone delivered at home in January 2023 and had to go to Trade Root Mall to do a sim swap.
In March 2023 the installment went up to R1238.00 from R906.00. I called MTN call center and i was given a run around, sent to go ask at the store. I went in store at Trade root Mall to ask for the original upgrade contract and I was told I must call 083 135.
So MTN will pass the buck and point fingers but not assist you. Trade Root Mall sent me to the store where i app**** for the upgrade as they claimed they don't have the contract.
I went to Maponya mall and was told they have archived all contracts. Now I am paying R1238.00 for an iPhone 11, and the contract finishes in January 2024.
Then i got a sales agent Kgothaso from MTN who called me to sell me a contract and I told him I will never use MTN in my life ever again. He's the only person who was genuinely concerned about my resentment for MTN. He then asked to check all for me out of his good working ethics.
He found out that there was a contract taken on my mother's name (she's 81 years old), a Huawei Y70 contact of 36 months was taken on my mother's name on the 11th March 2023 at Trade Root mall. Phone was dispatched and signed out for in store at trade Root Mall by Thabo Keenan Gewayn Mayisela.
I have emailed the ******** on the 15th of August 2023 and received an auto reply stating that they will respond to me withing 24 hours and even today on the 07th of September 2023 no one has contacted me from MTN regarding the *****.
MTN doesn't take care of its contract customers, as long as the debit order is in place, they will just continue billing whether you have queries or not.
Beware before getting a contract with MTN, they will use your confidential info to sell contract phones cash to people or take phones for their loved ones while you pay.
Clearly the person who committed the ***** took advantage because of my mother's age.
I need advice if i should just open a ***** case with SAPS?
Please help. An 81 year old is being ****** R400pm by MTN for 36 months for a contract and handset she doesn't have.
