MTN

I took out a laptop contract from MTN Wonderpark (next to Pick 'n Pay) in February 2017 as I was doing my final year and required to submit reports for practical's. The contract was 36 months long and had to pay R224.00 per month. The last payment was on 25th March 2020 and the amount was less than the monthly repayment. I went to MTN to enquire and verify if there was no mistake with the amount and also confirm if it was the last instalment. I found a black tall guy and he confirmed that it was the last payment and I told him I had no plans to continue with the contract.

I asked him if there was anything I needed to do from my side or if ever there was anything he should give me as proof of the contract been paid up, he said he only needed to update my information on their system.

A year later I went to the bank to apply for a home loan and was told that MTN blacklisted me. I enquired with MTN and they took me from pillar to post and on the 26th April 2021 I paid the R1 000.00 they said I owed them. I went back to MTN Wonderpark and I did not find the guy who previously told me not to worry but found a guy named Richard who really tried to assist but advised me to phone MTN and ask for a paid up letter and for the cancellation of the contract. I ended up talking to their legal department and was asked to send the proof of payment as my contract could not be cancelled without them issuing the paid up letter. I sent all the necessary documents( proof of resident, ID copy and proof of payment from my Internet banking account to show that I paid into their Standard bank account. It is almost a month now since I made the payment and they still did not clear my name from the Credit Bureau.

Even after paying I am currently being phoned by the company called VVM Attorneys who said they were sent by MTN to collect almost R900.00 from me. I have sent the VVM people the proof of payment and all the communication between me and MTN legal department on the 12th May and yesterday they told me they did not attend to my query. I feel abused by MTN because my things are stuck, I also feel they are giving me the run around because they want to ****** more money from me. Please help as their actions are affecting my livelihood and my health. My misfortune with MTN was because the laptop that I bought cash got ****** before I could insure it. I regret doing business with MTN because in the whole ten years that I have been employed, I never had a cell phone contract and now I am being abused and had to pay for something I have no business paying to start with.
