Most pathetic service and response from MTN ever

On 24 December 2016 my son bought me a new Alcatel router at the MTN store, Garden Route Mall, George. On 17 May 2017 I took it back because the clip that holds the Sim card in place dislodged from its original position and the Sim Card constantly moved out of position leaving me with no WiFi connectivity. I asked for Mr Erasmus who facilitated the sale in December. I was directed to a person working on his computer. I walked up to him and stood there for a couple of minutes before he looked up and asked if he could help. I explained the situation and mentioned that I believed that the router must surely be still under warranty. He dismantled the router and tried to replace the clip but without any success. He explained that he can take it in and send it to the MTN repair shop that will mail me a quotation to repair it as physical damages are not covered by the warranty. It would take anything between 18 to 25 days!! My response was that I see it as a flaw in manufacturing and that I cannot be without internet connectivity for so long nor being held responsible for the flaw. Upon hearing my response and reasoning, he took the parts of the dismantled router with the Sim card and all, threw it aggressively back into the box, slammed the lid shut and said that it is my opinion and that I must take my stuff and leave the shop if I don’t want to hand it in for repairs.
I felt aggrieved and insulted. I therefore asked to speak to the manager. He went to call the manager and after about 4 minutes they appeared. The manager knew what my situation was and without any explanation repeated what Mr Erasmus told me and that he cannot assist any further and that I must sort out the problem myself.
I think I know now how the person that was shown the door at one of our well known restaurants have felt. This is absolutely the most atrocious response and service from both a service consultant and the manager of the MTN store and most definitely is doing the brand name harm. I am still with the flawed product, MTN refuses to accommodate or assist me and now I sit with the consequences of their poor service delivery and products to us the unsuspecting public.

Reviewer Update

It has been more than a week ago that I received a response from MTN and to date I have had no further feedback or update regarding the issue at hand. I am still stuck with the flawed product and no Regional Manager or anyone else for that matter has contacted me to get the issue resolve. This is absolutely the kind of service one can expect from the MTN brand. Full of promises but very slow on delivery if delivery takes place at all.
