Month to month plan cancelled but MTN still taking money from my account
I took out a the month to month Home Internet Infinite plan with MTN with a monthly subscription of R999, back in 2023. (This is a plan where they give you 1TB of sim data per month and borrow you a router on a month to month basis).
MTN’s T&C’s for cancellation explicitly outlines that you return the router to the store and serve, as well as pay for, a one months notice.
I CANCELLED THIS MONTH TO MONTH PLAN IN LATE FEBRUARY 2024 due to me relocating. IN THE SAME MONTH, I RETURNED THE ROUTER AND SIM TO THE MTN STORE where I took out the plan. I completed and submitted the cancellation and router return documents. The MTN employee, who assist me, even made copies of my ID and completed the required documents as well. After this, I was informed that the cancellation was completed and I left the store.
Now in May 2024. I still have the R999 debit order for this month to month plan going off. I called MTN’s 135 customer care line multiple times and was put through to their cancellations/retention’s department. I inquired as to why I am still being debited for a plan that I cancelled in February 2024. And In a nutshell; I was informed that their system does show that the plan was cancelled. However, The MTN EMPLOYEE at the store where I returned the router and sim to. Did not phone the cancellations/retention’s department to cancel the plan. As a result their system still THINKS that the plan is ACTIVE
The MTN’s cancellations/retention’s department Informed me, that I have to go to the store where I returned the router and sim to. And request that they do the cancellation in my presence. After I informed the imbeciles at MTN cancellations/retention’s department, that this is impossible for me to do. Since the store is in another province. They then told me that THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME, AND THAT THE R999 WOULD CONTINUE TO BE DEDUCTED FROM MY ACCOUNT.
I did MTN’s job for them and phoned the store where I returned the router and sim to. And spoke with their *********** employee, who assisted me. He then told me that the plan was cancelled and that MTN’s cancellations/retention department also collect the router. I informed him of what the cancellations/retention department told me and provided him with my details. He then told me that he will get back to me after having figured out the problem. He never got back to. I tried phoning the MTN store back multiple times and they are not answering my calls.
I am now forced to pay MTN R999 per month, for a service I cancelled and a router and sim I returned in February. Their *********** employees refuse to assist me and are force me to pay for their NEGLIGENCE.
At this stage. I care less about some generic corporate apology. I demand a refunded for all the monies I paid and I am still paying to MTN, which ran past their notice period. And I vouch to never do business or allow anyone in my family to do business with this **** disguised as a corporation, called MTN
