MNT Corporate Abuse of Power

On the 10th May 2018 I received an unsolicited call from MTN. I emailed MTN Customer Care Department the following; "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

I received an unsolicited phone call from a lady at MTN earlier today (her name escapes me now- it may have been “Happy”) to inform me that my contract is up for renewal. One needs to ask as to why the Callers details are not on the covering page or on the contract attached nor are the new monthly charges?! Is this Legal?

As a loyal client to MTN I have been on a R89.00 CHG Package +(S100 + D300 + LTE)24 and combined with a secondary line – 083 my monthly bank deduction is only R208.01 a month. Attached are the 2 Invoices but I could never understand why I am charged R208.01 each & every month when my one contract is R89.00 and the other contract only R35.00 per month?! See 2 sets of Invoices attached.

The Telesales person that has now called me to inform me that as I want no changes to my package both my SMS’s and Data (Recurring Internet) simply is drastically reduced. Currently I get 100 SMS that you now simply want to halve and my data MTN just reduces by two thirds.

What is the remaining term of my current contract?

To “mark” on the Subscriber Application Form that I have requested an Upgrade is Untrue! MTN solicited me and have reduced my benefits with immediate affect which I feel goes directly against the Consumer Protection Act!!!!! According to the Consumer Protection Act MTN need to give me between 40 to 80 business days before the expiry date of my contract before you simply just reduce my existing contract by two thirds!! I refer to Section 22 of the CPA Act.

Please forward my complain to senior management at MTN and I request acknowledgment within 24 hours and a written response within the next 72 hours regarding my concerns.

I await your written response."

Needless to say no one at MTN has bothered to acknowledge my email nor respond to my email! I will take this matter further.
