Misleading Promotion & Refusal to Cancel Contract – MTN Lakeside Mall

On 3 August 2025, I visited MTN Lakeside Mall to enquire about phones. I was assisted by Palesa, who recommended the Honor 400 Lite, saying it came with a fitness watch and phone case. This convinced me to take the deal.

After repeated “network issues,” I finally got the phone on 5 August — but there was no watch or phone case. I was told the watch had to be claimed through Tshepo. When I followed up, I received no proper feedback. On 8 August, I was shocked to learn from Tshepo that the promotion had actually expired in June.

The store then promised me a R500 voucher to get a cheaper watch, but never followed through. On 13 August, when I tried to cancel the contract within the cooling-off period, the store refused, while retentions said the store must handle it. Now I’m stuck with a phone under false promises.

This is unfair and misleading. MTN must either cancel my contract without penalty, honour the original promotion, or provide a fair equivalent.
