Misleading MTN Promotion – Promised 20GB, Received Nothing
MTN’S “PROMOTION” FEELS LIKE A **** – I SPENT MORE MONEY AND STILL GOT NOTHING
I am absolutely disgusted by my experience with MTN. What was supposed to be a promotional offer to reward a new customer has turned into an experience that has left me feeling completely deceived, frustrated and ******.
On 16 August 2026, I purchased a phone from Truworths under a promotion where customers were promised 20GB of MTN data after purchasing the phone and loading R30 airtime.
I did exactly what was required.
When the 20GB did not reflect, I went back to Truworths because I wanted to make sure there wasn’t an issue on my side. Instead of receiving a solution, I was advised to purchase another MTN SIM card and load another R30 airtime.
I did that too.
So I effectively spent more money trying to qualify for a promotion that MTN had advertised, and guess what? STILL NOTHING.
I also downloaded the MTN App because there was supposedly an additional 1GB promotional data offer, and I didn’t receive that either.
At this point, I have to ask: What exactly is the point of advertising these promotions if customers who follow the requirements don’t receive the benefits?
I have contacted MTN, provided the information and proof requested, and cooperated with their processes. Yet I am still sitting here without the data that was promised to me.
This is no longer just about 20GB of data. It is about trust and the principle of the matter.
I became an MTN customer because of an offer that was presented to me as a benefit. I followed the requirements. When it didn’t work, I went the extra mile and even purchased another SIM and loaded another R30 — and MTN still failed to honour the promotion.
How many other customers have simply given up because they don’t have the time or energy to keep chasing MTN for what was advertised to them?
From a customer’s perspective, this feels misleading and completely unacceptable. You cannot use attractive promotions to bring customers onto your network and then make those same customers fight to receive what was promised.
I honestly feel ****** of my money and my trust.
MTN, I don’t want another generic response telling me that the matter has been “escalated” or that you are “waiting for information.” I have already done my part. I want this matter properly investigated and resolved.
I want the promotional data that I was promised, and I want an explanation as to why I had to purchase a second SIM and spend additional money simply trying to get MTN to honour its own promotion.
This experience has completely changed my perception of MTN.
I would NOT recommend MTN to anyone based on this experience. I would strongly advise potential customers to carefully consider whether these promotional offers are actually worth the frustration that comes afterwards.
MTN needs to understand that customers are not numbers and promotional promises are not marketing decorations. If you advertise an offer, honour it.
Very disappointed. Very frustrated. And absolutely not impressed with MTN.
