Misleading and False Advertising, coupled with non-existing customer service

My contracts was due for upgrade, so I had a number of phone calls from MTN (Cell Networks) as to when I am planning to the upgrade. On June 29/06/2020 I was forwarded the June Trader by an agent. As the specifications (Storage and Ram) of the phone I wanted was not available on the printed (PDF version) of the material he send to me, I decided to confirm the specifications via the MTN Website.

1. With only 1 Nokia listed on the Website, and only 1 Nokia available in the material forwarded to me, I came to the conclusion that the specifications of the phone would be the same. Nokia 7.2 128 GB Storage as per the Website, no Ram mentioned.

2. In the June MTN Trader the Nokia 7.2 was on offer with a 007 Special edition Kevlar case valued at R250, and 20GB Anytime data valid for 30 days free.

I opted for the Nokia 7.2 as my choice of phone on both my contracts that were due for upgrade.

The agent assisting me, neglect to tell me that

1. The phone on offer is on equipped with only 64GB and not 128GB storage 2. There is free cover its just an advertising gimmick 3. The 20GB free is also just false advertising.

So when the first of my 2 phones arrived, and I realized that it was not what I expected I tried to make contact with the agent that help me. No luck on the phone, no response to my emails. After eventually getting hold of someone at MTN customer services that was willing to assist me, I was told to speak to Cell Networks as they managed my upgrades.

Trying since Thursday afternoon (02/07) to speak to a supervisor to raise my unhappiness, just to be told she will phone me, and now Monday 06/07 and still no contact from her. My Emails to the agent are ignored, my request to speak to the supervisor is ignored, and in the meantime I sit with 2 Nokia phones that are not as advertised, no Kevlar covers, and no Free Data. The Supervisor at Cell Networks are shining in her absence. It is not possible to reach her via phone, as call can't be transferred to her, she ignores all messages. Think it is just another lie, there might not even be a supervisor.

The agents at Cell Networks are aware of the fact that I was going to raise an issue on HelloPeter and they don't care.

Not sure what MTN calls this, but I feel I was mislead, their advertising are false and well the service I got from Cell Networks are just plain pathetic. Although I dealt with Cell Networks, I am of the opinion that MTN should resolve this as Cell Networks are a whole-owned division of MTN.

Manage to have the 20 GB free data sorted, but still no help on the rest. CellNetworks are not even trying to assist me in getting to a solution about the 64Gb vs 128GB storage on the phone nor on the cover that was never supp****. Worst of all MTN is not acknowledging my complaint.

Trying to cancelled the 2nd Upgrade as I have not taken possession of the phone, but now the agent helping me has also gone quiet on that.

The Nokia "agents" have confirmed that MTN has never order/ supply the Nokia 7.2 with 128GB of storage space, therefor indirectly confirming my complaint of False advertising.

I have since recieved my Kevlar cover, but still no contact from MTN or CellNetworks on the False advertising, that left me with a phone that only has 64GB storage instead of the advertised 128GB.

Customer service of both MTN and Cellnetworks remain pathetic at its best, as they make no effort to contact me, and Cell Networks only respond once I make contact via email.

It took the supervisor more than a week to contact me, and even though she has promised to investigate my problems, I have not heard from her since Thursday (09/07/2020).

Various calls, emails and facebook messages to MTN just go un-answered.

Millisa Hartman a Supervisor at CellNetworks MTN have informed me that as I can not give them a picture of what was advertised on the MTN site, she has no interest in helping me, as as they have arrange delivery the Kevlar Cover to me, this issue as completed with no further actions outstanding. I then decided to get the Consumer Council Involved. Have downloaded the complaints form, completed it and have send it on to the Consumer Council for assistance. I have copied Millisa on the email, and once she received the copy, she very quickly escalated this email to a few other people for assistance.

I have since received a reference number from the MTN Cutomer Care department promising a 2 day response time. They have not made any effort in more than a week to respond, doubt if the 2 days will realize but lets give them the benefit of the doubt.

During this time a Hazel Ma***ane has assisted very proffesionally me in cancelling the 2nd upgrade that was also a complete "*****-up" done by Ishmeal Tlhasi. My advice avoid working Ishmael Tlhasi and Millisa Hartman if you want customer service, not something they excel in based on my personal experience.
