Lying to get a sale

I pre-registered for the Samsung S7 Edge. A person phoned me and said they will take my details and courier the phone to me. I told the guy no I would rather collect it at the MTN store as I live on a farm and Courier companies can't find me and I don't want to be stuck at home waiting for a courier. He told me that's not possible as they are the only ones who have the phones. I have since found out that I could have walked into the MTN shop and collected my new phone. So now after a shed load of phone calls being put on hold for hours spending the day waiting for a courier guy who may or may not pitch up, when I could have just gone into town and picked up my phone.
Why did the sales guy lie to me about this? The call is recorded so you can listen to it and maybe educate your sales people that lying to the customer just to get a sale is not a great advert for your company.
