LTE contract monthly debit quadrupled... Could not cancel
My LTE contract with MTN ended this year March which had cost me R600 p/month. However...
According to their customer support, there is a clause in the contract that states, when the contract ends, they will continue to send you data (20GB, in my case), at standard rates, which is quadruple the cost of the contract rate. So... I've been debited R2400 every month since then, for this 20GB data, which I have not even used, because I have since moved over to a different service.
Not knowing about this clause, it obviously came as a huge shock. After phoning in trying to cancel it, and even stopping the debit order with my bank, it has still gone through. I have managed to cancel the subscription today by going into the MTN branch in Walmer.
These misleading contracts with hurdles in your when trying to cancel them, should not exist, and has caused a lot of financial stress for me, especially now when my industry has come to a complete halt, and remained so, since #lockdown.
I hope that I can be reimbursed, or credited for this, but I doubt it, as I am just another number on their system, with many others facing the same issue, but if there is anyone who could help with this, please do.
At least, I'd hope this would serve as a caution to others about how some of these contracts work, and the difficulty with having them cancelled.
MTN South-Africa 1/5 stars, would not recommend.
