Lack of customer service is disgraceful - avoid MTN

I recently changed from pay-as-you-go (on another network) to a contract on MTN. I regret that decision. Firstly, it took about 8 weeks to get a sim card, migrate my number and get it registered on the network. Some of that time was my fault, I admit, but about half of that time was due to a series of bad service issues from MTN. It took at least 5 visits to a physical MTN store to get it sorted. incredibly frustrating and time consuming. Now at least I have I have a working sim card. But now I have questions about the billing/contract and I have discovered that MTN is not contactable by phone. It is impossible to call them. The only contact is 135 which just gives you a series of automated responses. You can spend 15 mins looking online for a direct number, none of them work. Even calling the headoffice is not possible, no one answers. Even the staff at the MTN shop are not able to call customer service. There is no customer service. I am sure they have done that to save money by not having to pay people working in a call center. But to my mind it is the ultimate sign that the company does not care about its customers. The fact that it is not possible to pick up a phone and call someone is disgraceful and MTN should be ashamed of itself. If I knew that was going to be the case I would never have signed a contract with them.
