I am absolutely appalled by the utter incompetence and ******* business practices of MTN South Africa. I have an active, paid-up mobile contract with MTN. Despite my contract being fully active and paid via debit order every month, MTN went ahead and "released" and sold my cellphone number to a completely new customer without my knowledge, consent, or any warning whatsoever. My SIM card is now completely dead. This has caused an absolute crisis, as I have completely lost access to my banking apps, WhatsApp, and critical work two-factor authentication (2FA). MTN has essentially handed my digital identity over to a stranger while forcing me to pay for a service I cannot use. To make matters worse, their customer care and support teams are refusing to fix this issue on their side, offering zero solutions except "there is nothing we can do." You cannot recycle a number that is tied to a live, paying contract. This is a direct breach of contract and a violation of ICASA’s Number Portability Regulations. MTN: I demand that you immediately escalate this to your executive team to either: Restore my original number to my SIM immediately and compensate me for the downtime. Cancel this contract immediately with zero cancellation penalties, stop the debit orders, and refund me for the period I have been left without service. If this is not resolved within 48 hours, I will be taking this straight to the ICASA Complaints house and lodging a formal dispute. Unacceptable!
