I’ve liked them for so long but I can’t recommend them to anyone

I have been with MTN close to 10 years now and all was well when I did not have any issues with my account. Two things happened lately.

The first thing was that someone saw it fit to increase my spend limit on a contract which I’m convinced is a top up contract - I never take any other type of contract. The genius who did that left me paying an extra R500 a month on my accounts since August. I logged a call in September which somehow disappeared and I had to log another one in my bid to get assistance from these wonderful people who do not seem to know what they are doing - ***. This, by the way, is after I sent an email or two which were ignored threatening to take MTN to consumer affairs. No help came my way.

On Wednesday, the 16th of November, a very helpful lady sent me through to the retention department where my spend limit was increased. After I was on the phone with one of the consultants there for almost an hour, she handed the phone to a gentleman who introduced himself as a manager/supervisor. He promised me that the issue is getting sorted and I will receive a call by close of business. Pity I don’t recall his name. Whoever he is I would like to thank him because he taught me a very valuable lesson - never trust any of these consultants when they tell you they will call you back, not without taking their names at least so that you can come and expose them in such a platform.

I decided to call back on Friday after waiting for a day without a call. I got through to a lady named Kwanele who told me that the system was down and she promised to call me back by close of business as well. No call came and here I am letting whoever cares to listen of my frustration. I do not have R500 extra lying around waiting for MTN to take it whenever it suits them promise to refund me whenever they finally decide to resolve my issue.

The second thing was with regards to a contract that was coming to an end on the 11th of November 2022. Called MTN on the 10th of November and I was put through to retention, which by the way is the most outstanding department in terms of service at MTN. I have had enough dealings with this department in 2022 to last me a year or two without ever wanting to deal with them. I digress, my call was cut off due to network issues which seems to be MTN’s trademark lately as load shedding is to Eskom. Lady I spoke to did not even try to call me back and after a few hours I called back without success. When other consultants tried to put me through to retention I was told by the lovely lady (machine) that the offices are closed and office hours are 08:00 to 17:00 and I should call back during working hours. This was despite my call happening during working hours. After I realized that MYN does not need my business anymore I cancelled the contract.

I have always had the best voice/data deals from MTN but their service sucks so much I would not recommend them to anyone. My brother wanted to come over to them from Vodacom and I told him to stay with Vodacom, better the devil you know and used to than a new one.

I logged a call with MTN’s ***** department on the 15th of March 2023 and as I am writing today on the 27th of March 2023 I have not yet received assistance. All the while MTN continues to debit R500 more from my account than what they rightfully owed.

I would recommend whoever is thinking of taking a contract with them to stay far away. They do not mind robbing their customers and then send you around circles when you try to get your money back. At this point, I’m considering laying ******** charges against MTN. I might get assistance that way.
