Injustice by MTN

On the 5th of June I was a victim of a crime where I was held at gunpoint in the Joburg CBD. Through this unfortunate event I lost my cellphone which I had purchased via a contract through MTN. This ordeal took place at about 18:30 and I called MTN the following morning to block my phone.

I thought the matter was resolved until two months later when MTN deducted R5521 from my bank account. When I called their customer service to enquirer about this, I was told that the ******s had increased my credit limit by R5000 and made "me-to-you" transfers. I questioned how they could allow anyone to increase my credit limit without verifying if it's me. I further questioned the legality of being liable for paying for something I did not authorize as I have a sworn statement stating that I lost my phone at 18:30. The lady who I spoke to from the Customer service responded, in a non-challant manner, stating that the transactions took place at about 20:00. She went on to say that it was my fault and I should have blocked my phone immediately. I explained that I was on a business trip and still shaken from being ****** at gunpoint. I then told her that I would reverse this payment from my bank account until MTN explains to me how I am liable for something I didn't authorise. She advised that she would get someone to call me to discuss the matter further and gave me a reference number ( ********** 23), however I have still not received that call; instead MTN deducted R6100 from my account. I even gave her my alternative number where they can reach me but still no word from MTN.

I am not happy with the injustice from MTN especially since I have been a loyal customer for almost 10 years and have never missed a payment. I hope that this matter can be resolved as soon as possible.

Regards

Disgruntled MTN Client
