Inflated amount for service not provided

On Saturday the 26th of July, MTN debited my account R1 689.00 for the one gig that I received monthly. I am supposed to be paying R79 for this contract but since its open contract I pay more after reaching limit. Lately I have not used the phone for calls, it has been mainly facebook, whatapp and instagram which is also something that I do not do all the time.
When enquiring about this inflated bill, I was told that it's because I reached my data limit, I have never been out of balance over this period, never even got to a point where my data bundles were less than 500 MB.

So where exactly does this R1300 included on my bill coming from?

Worse of all, I have spent close to 120 minutes on the call trying to get hold of CC agents, first person made jokes that I found irritating and complained that she could not here me because of the noise in her office,
The second lady, soon after greeting dropped my call..
Why am I being billed for this itemized bill given that this is an issue being reported and call Centre agents are unable to provide clear response behind the inflated bill.

Lastly my bill has never went past R400 during high usage time, what changed MTN????

Hello thobzam,

Thank you for your post,

We apologise for the delayed response and for any inconvenience this may have caused.

According to our records you used over 2GB of data above the 1GB you are provisioned. The out of bundle rates have increased to R0.99 per MB.

Thank you
