At the end of January I was forced to switch over to another service provider due to contractual changes at my place of employment.

I phoned MTN ahead of time to obtain the amount needed to settle and cancell my contract. I paid the amount at a MTN outlet and phoned the MTN retention department to confirm that all was in order.

The agent assured me that they had made a note on the system of my payment and that everything was fine and the contract had been switched to prepaid (necessary because I am keeping my original MTN number).

A month later I received an sms stating that I owe MTN a rediculous sum of money and that it would be deducted from my bank account at the end of March. Again I phoned the call centre and was directed to the MTN Retention department. The agent confirmed that the cancellation fees was charged to my account twice and that the mistake would be rectified. I need not worry, everything was in order.

Lo and behold, on the morning of 1 April MTN launched the debit order against my account.

I phoned again, holding on for what seemed to be an eternity, and spoke to yet another call centre agent. Again the agent assured me that MTN has made the mistake. That it has been rectified. I need not be worried. Everything is in order and I do not owe MTN any moneys.

Today I received an sms from MTN threatening legal action if the money is not paid into their account "immediately". As I am typing this, I have been on hold for the MTN Retention department for nearly 45 minutes.

Best regards,
I was just contacted by Matumelo at MTN, who personally took full responsibility for the whole ordeal (even though she was not one of the responsible parties).
Matumelo confirmed that the problem has now definitely been rectified.
Thank you, MTN, for taking my complaint seriously.
