Incompetence and indifference - how to lose a loyal customer
I was a loyal customer of MTN for over 30 years. Until recently... my cell phone reception at home is non-existent after I moved to a new town a couple of years ago. After a visit to MTN and advise from Dandray, which was a delight to deal with, I logged a call on *** on 24 March 2026 and I was assisted by Meliswa @15:30. She promised to send a reference number. I received nothing. I followed up on 25 May, Indipilwe assisted. She put me through to a manager and after I spend a lot of time on the phone, provided the coordinates -34,400932,19.268421 ref *** was provided. Siyabonga assisted. On 30 March I spoke to Sisipho - no progress or note on my profile. I phone again on 7 April, Sisonda confirmed nothing happened. I decided to go to MTN in Herm**** on 15 April. I was assisted by a young man at the counter. I informed him I want to cancel my contract. He was indifferent. He informed me I need to call 135. I spoke with client services - no option in store to cancel. The cell reception was so bad I had to repeat personal information numerous times in front of everyone in the store, the agent decided I need to speak with the division where I logged the call to try and resolve the issue, they confirmed the 14 working days they have to solve an issue has expired but they will escalate to the technical team. I insisted that I have had it and want to cancel and take out a contract with Vodacom as they have coverage in the area. I phoned 135 again, struggled with bad reception. This time Nomosindo went through the security questions which I failed. MTN proofed their systems are out of sync - I got married 7 years ago and tried to change my surname and address numerous times without success. My billing always reflected my old detail although in store my updated details was confirmed with every upgrade to be the latest valid detail! I could not cancel because MTN has the inability to do simple changes over platforms. Luckily, I had a copy of my marriage certificate, and the update was done successfully. I wonder how they got it right after all this time, but I was happy that this could be the end of this nightmare soon. The young man confirmed someone did not do the changes properly. Inamo was on the other end of 135 when I called them once more. Again, repeating my personal information with a pathetic signal in store. After about 2 hours in store, I received a message that my contract was cancelled. Strangely later the same evening, I had 2 *****ulent transactions lodged on the bank account where my debit order for MTN goes off. I cannot but wonder if this is because my personal information was shared in store. I opened up a case of ***** and hopefully will get to the bottom of this.
