Inability to get contract cancelled

I have an existing 24 month MTN contract, which is almost a year over the contract period.
I have been trying to get hold of MTN to get this contract cancelled. without luck
I made close to 50 phone calls to the 808 number (as per the MTN website), and spend hours trying to talk to an MTN agent.
After these unsuccessful attempt I went to an MTN store (Mall@reds) where I was advised that the only way to get this contract cancelled was to phone the 808 number.
After more unsuccessful attempts I wrote an email to MTN, which as noted on the MTN website would be attended to within 3 to 5 days. It has now been a week.
I am now going to stop the debit order at my bank, in the hope that MTN would phone me back to get the outstanding amount. If this has a negative impact on my credit rating, I will gladly take this matter up in court, as this is surely unacceptable behaviour by a service provider, according to the Consumer Protection Act.
I will also contact ICASA to try and resolve this issue.
MTN is clearly only after collecting money, without having to provide a service in return!
