In the process of being cheated by MTN rententions department

In March 2017, I upgraded my MTN contract number ********** 152 (at an MTN shop in Senekal) and I was given a "certified pre-owned Iphone 5S" with 32 gig storage. The cost of the contract is 289 rands per month and I get 2gig data and 100minutes anytime minutes. I was informed by the sales agent that the warrant was 12 months since it was not a new device but pre-owned, meaning that come March 2018, the phone will be out of warranty. Remember it was a pre-owned handset. I did not have a problem with that. However on the 9th of January 2018, I called the rententions department for cancellations. The reference number for that call is ********** 83. The agent told me that they would look at the value of the iphone 5 in 2018 and calculate how much I would have to pay. I tried to explain to her that they should take into account that I got the handset not as new but as a pre-owned device, hence cannot have the same value as a handset which was new at the time of upgrade. That was rejected. The result was i was told that in order to cancell my contract, I would have to pay 3653.16rands. Given that 13 months are left on this contract, thats 281 per months, which is only 8rands less than the 289rands I am currently paying for both the handset plus data and 100 anytime minutes. Now isn't this **************** by MTN? How can i be expected to pay money equivalent to a device which was new at the time of upgrade whereas I got it as a certified pre-owned device. This is grossly unfair. I want to warn anyone reading this to be careful when upgrading or signing up for new contracts not to accept pre-owned device contracts which i foolishly did as you will be treated as if you received a new device.

I request that the settlement amount of 3653.16rands which the rententions department wants me to pay be revised downwards so as to reflect that the handset i got at the time of upgrade was pre-owned and not new. That MTN forgets it gave me a pre-owned device makes it look like a ****a shop where record keeping is a crisis. A reputable brand like MTN cannot fail to capture such detail in its business. That it is happening is a new wonder of the morden world.
