I was later advised that they would only issue a phone to me worth lesser or the same amount as an A5 Galaxy and update the insurance with the value of the A5 Galaxy.

On 23 February 2016 I open a contract with MTN for a cellphone and had an IPhone 5s, I was advised to insure the phone in cases of loss, theft or the phone being damaged I would then be able to claim. I lost it as ****** and I was replacement with a Samsung Galaxy A5 at MTN. I proceeded to insure the phone with MTN for the value of 15 000.00. On the 30 June 2016 and fax through the updates on insurance on the 04 July 2016.

The cellphone was insured for R15.000 on a Monthly of R140.00 that was debited from my bank account onwards.

On 02 December 2016, I left the Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 cellphone underneath my clothes in a wardrobe in my bedroom at home and left for Kimberly. On the 10th December 2016 when I returned to back , I went for my cellphone where I left it, the phone was nowhere to be found, I asked my family members regarding the whereabouts of the phone, they said they didn’t know. To avoid any other conflicts as the phone was missing, I reported the phone lost on the 11 December 2016.

The claim was registered and later on I was advised that my phone was insured for a higher amount and of which the value of the phone amount is less than the amount insured.

I argued the matter, providing to the consultants that, how can they accept the insured amount if they were aware and were of the knowledge that the value of the cell phone was less than the insured amount. I argued further that I pay a monthly repayment of 140.00 per month for the insured amount of R15 000.00.

I further advised the consultants that the error was not on my part and therefore I request to be given a phone worth the insured amount.

I was later advised that they would only issue a phone to me worth lesser or the same amount as an A5 Galaxy and update the insurance with the value of the A5 Galaxy.

Secondly I ask them , what is going to happen to the extra money I have been paying towards the insurance before the correction; they were unable able to answer me and when I ask to speak to the Manager, I was told she/he is busy and they cant get through to her.

I am of the view that if there is any negligence in this matter, it is of the insurance, who accepted and approved the application of the insurance for R15 000.00

For consumer protection purposes, it is not fair and just to be treated in this manner, when I was fully compliant with their contract obligation to pay R140.00 for the value of R15 000.00 insurance.

Kindly assist in this matter.

John Morwakgotla

I would like to thank your company MTN Services and the customer services division for their excellent support. Your customers care online, Hello peter, Ms Sandile Mkhize and Sherryl to take care of all my queries in a jiffy.

Sandile also provided timely and helpful advice regarding the selection of cellphone and specifications etc. She let me know all the important information regarding the product and prices including its features.

She was extremely attentive and she listened to all my concerns with a great deal of patience. She also ensured that I received all the information regarding the mode of payment to the company and the time by which I would expect the cellphone in stock.

I am very thankful to all staff involved to solve the difference I had with the insurance claim and Sandile explained which product will suit my needs best. She also solved the problem regarding the service charges which I faced. She has a caring approach and she is a true professional.

Please accept my gratitude and appreciation towards to ALL MTN and Monitor Solutions Marketing to resolve my insurance claims and THANKS to your customer care staff for their speedy and efficient services. I would especially like to commend Mike from helo peter, Sandile and Sherryl for their professionalism and superlative s****s.
