I WANT OUT NOW!
I have been on contract with MTN for over 4 years now. My contract was due to expire on 15 August 2020. From what I know, I was meant to give MTN notice on 15 July 2020, which I did. The agent I spoke to informed me that I will have to call on 15 August 2020. Prior to that, my account was in default and I had made a payment arrangement to pay the final R509.99 end of this month, August 2020. So I do call on 16 August 2020 to give notice, I was informed that the cancellation department does not open on weekends. So i call again on Monday, 17 August 2020 to cancel. No one assisted. Later on in the day, I get an email from mtn with an invoice for a further 509.99, meaning I now owe R1019.98 I ended up sending an e-mail to an MTN complaints analyst because not only have I requested this contract to be cancelled, I now have a bill for a month I have explicitly made known that I am cancelling. He gave me call and I informed him of what happened. to my surprise he says I should've cancelled 15 July 2020, I told him I did and that I was informed by MTN that I should call 15 August 2020. He says they should have explained to me that I must give 30 days notice when I called and not tell me to cancel on 15 August, which they failed to do, nonetheless I cannot cancel with my account in arrears. Granted, so MTN Will hold me to ransom every single month, get billed again over and over again. At absolutely no point did I say I will not pay the outstanding R509.99, but to say my contract will not be cancelled until then is just plain dodge and scheming. what stops you from cancelling the contract and allowing me to pay after, I have made my intention known over and over again. I find it extremely ********* of a company to be doing such. I don't want this contract anymore, I just want to be put on prepaid.
Also, the National Consumer Act states that you are not allowed to automatically renew my contract without my express permission, on top of that, cellular company needs to notify individual consumers about the expiry of the agreement between 40 and 80 days before this happens, not a measly reminder that I am due for an upgrade but no mention of cancellation option. No one called me. I want out!
