I ported to them and now I can't use my number - have to do an affidavit to prove it's my number - they stole my number
Decided to port my Telkom number to MTN. On Saturday I did the porting which took a few hours. I then inserted the sim card and it worked very well. I recharged same Saturday and made calls and also received calls. On Sunday I recharged again and could make calls. On Monday I expected an OTP which never came. I assumed it was the system on the website and not my phone. I realised on Tuesday that I am not receiving any calls or sms. SO, I restarted my phone and there was no service. The phone didn't pick up the sim card. I only got a chance to go to MTN store Wednesday around 5pm. The consultant checked and told me that my number is not active. I have to call 135 and report the next day since he said they were closed. On Thursday around 3pm I called customer service and the lady who helped asked for my number and checked. She then put me on hold and then she told me the number has been activated. It will take 6 to 24 hours before it's activated and then my phone will be working.
Come Friday my phone is still not working. I restart several times and it still not working. I then go to the MTN store, the same consultant as Wednesday helps me. He checks and says the number is active. He takes my ID and did something on the computer and told me to restart and it will be working. I leave the shop as I restart but the phone still doesn't work. I restart several times and it's still not working. I go back to the store and the guy tells me that if it's not working then we'll have to do a sim swap. Well I wait, he then tells me I have to go to a police station and do an affidavit about what happened. Then I can come back to the store to do a sim swap. I ask him why and he tells me that they need proof that this number belongs to me. I tell me that I have my ID and this sim card was bought and RICA'd which I can still show him the proof of address including the ID. He tells me that they don't have access to RICA info. I tell him I but this is unfair and he tells me that life is unfair. How's life unfair when it's MTN which is unfair. I ported to them on Saturday and they stole my number. Now I can't use my number the whole week missing calls which could be very important and then you're treated like a *****. Why would anyone still a cell phone number? Can I please have my number back so I can port to another service provider. I don't wasn't to be on MTN anymore. I just want my number back and I can move it to where I want. PLEASE RELEASE MY NUMBER SO I CAN PORT TO ANOTHER PORVIDER.
