I need my number!

I switched from an MTN contract to prepaid and paid up my MTN account. I then went to Vodacom to get a new contract because Vodacom reception is much better in the area that I live. The problem I have is that MTN are refusing to release my number so it can be ported to Vodacom. It was originally a vodacom number that I ported to MTN. It is so important to me that I retain this number. I called MTN to find out why I was declined and they cannot give me a good reason and tell me to continue applying. I Googled reasons porting can be declined and none of these apply to me. I see it as MTN actually holding my number hostage. Apparently there are other clients that are battling to have their prepaid numbers released by MTN. I need a very good reason why this is happening, or I need my number released asap, please. It isn't my fault that MTN signal is poor on the farm- I had to change service providers!
