I cancelled my contract, yet legal action is taken against me.

In October last year I cancelled and paid up a contract with MTN. It was a massive struggle to get the line moved from contract to prepaid but eventually the line was moved.

7 months later (this week Monday), I received a formal notice from MTN's attorneys telling me that my account was handed over for legal action against me. Even though I have written confirmation that the fees were paid and the line was migrated to prepaid, MTN decided to take legal action against me.

...BUT that's not the worst part! MTN also decided to crash my credit score into the ground by informing TransUnion that I don't pay my account. I've gone from 954 points - an 'Excellent' credit rating to 654 - 'Fair' (only 19 points above 'Poor').

So this is MTN's error, I paid my account and yet my credit score is ruined and the lawyers are still demanding payment.

Can someone at MTN please exaplin this?? How do you plan to fix this??
