I am told: This MTN store cannot assist, try another. Cyber Monday

On Monday 28/11/2016 I tried calling three MTN stores in Umhlanga but got no answer. I am on a “month to month’ contract for more than four years & wanted to upgrade it. I also wanted to add 2 more prepaid numbers to contract, on my business account.

I then went to the MTN store in Gateway at 17:30 (the one that’s near Govan Mani) with all my documents for the Cyber Monday deal and waited in the line for more than an hour. Got to the consultant and she says she needs the sim card number and not the cellphone number in order to add the 2 more lines. It’s odd that a contract can be done on the system but you cannot view a prepaid sim card number on it

She then tried to upgrade my line whilst I get the sim card numbers from the 2 users who tried calling 173 & they were told to go to a store. The consultant then tells me she cannot do my upgrade because the system is not allowing her and that I need to go to the Coastlands Gatemax store to do it but she will try to add the other 2 lines but then could not access my account. I was again told that the Coastlands Gatemax store can only process the additional lines. It was already 19:15 and the other store was closed.

The consultant had tried quite a few times and I appreciate her help but what happens to me the loyal customer for many years? I went to an MTN STORE. How must I know that this store can’t do an upgrade but another can do it? There’s no signage in the store. I would like to know what is the way forward from here as I wasted more than 2 hours of my time for a deal that I could have got from “Another Store”

Good day Neeren,

Thank you for your post on Hello Peter. Please accept our apology for the inconvenience caused.

We are also terribly sorry for the poor service delivery. Our management teams will be made aware of the levels of service you have experienced.

The store consultant should have logged the system error at that point because these new lines could have been captured at the store.

Did you receive any reference number from the consultant for us to check what the issue was?

Please ask the consultant to contact the MTN dealer helpdesk with that reference number and they might be able to back date the promo.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further assistance.

Kind regards,

Caylin Julius
