HOW TO CANCEL YOUR MTN CONTRACT IN TWO EASY STEPS!
Like most of the 71,000 people here who have complained about MTN, I too was unable to downgrade or cancel my MTN contract - which I needed to do because their signal and coverage in my area hardly ever worked (whereas Vodacom worked perfectly) After a year of calls and emails to MTN, with absolutely no response, I did the following: 1) I cancelled my debit order with MTN 2) I filed a complaint with the Consumer Goods & Services Ombud (google their website and you'll find the form to fill in) The Consumer Goods Ombud is AMAZING. They contacted MTN and, while it took almost 2 months to sort out, eventually an 'analyst' from MTN contacted me via email. My contract was cancelled without any penalties. Advice: Make sure when you fill out the Consumer Goods complaint form that you provide details of how you have tried to sort out the matter with MTN. So give details of dates you called, emails you sent and any of those useless automated 'reference numbers' that MTN sends you when you email them! It takes a while, but it is possible.
