How not to deal with customers
At14h00 on1 September I was told that there were inadequate funds for me to make calls from my phone despite the existence of a contract which includes provision for a R250 limit over the contractual call amount.

When I called MTN at 14h20 I was told by an operator that there was no excess amount listed and that she would correct this problem. At 14h45 when trying to use my phone I was again advised told that there were no funds available and that calls were not possible.

When I called MTN at 14h50 I was told by a different operator that there was still no reference to the R250 limit on the MTN system and that she was unable to correct this \because her system was too was slow". After an indescribable wait I was told by a supervisor that she did not know the cause of the problem and that she would escalate the problem to the relevant department. She said it would take between 3 - 5 days to resolve the problem.

The manner in which this problem has been addressed highlights the attitude of MTN towards its customers and its single minded focus on profit despite its service levels.
"""
